Frequently Asked Questions:
How Can We Help You?
Tax-Aid is offering virtual tax services. That means you can email or mail us all of your tax documents and we will prepare your tax return for you. Everything will be sent back to you via email or mail. If you want to email us your documents, you will either need a scanner or the camera on your phone or computer to take photos of your tax documents.
PLEASE NOTE: We are extremely busy helping people who have already contacted us for tax help. We cannot guarantee your tax return will be ready by the filing deadline of July 15, 2020. It may take our volunteers several weeks to prepare your tax return. If you are not able to wait, we recommend you use our IRS free file program delivered by TurboTax (see link at the left side of this page), call 211 to find another free tax preparation program or file for a tax-filing extension by following the link at the bottom of this page with instructions.
If you are able to wait for your return because you are expecting a tax refund and do not expect to owe any taxes, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Complete our tax questionnaire completely. Click the link below to either download, print and email us the questionnaire or you can complete it from the link below and select the green “Click to submit” button at the end of the form.
Step 2: Using your scanner or camera on your phone, email us all of the tax documents that pertain to your situation from the What to Bring list below.
Step 3: Send an email to us at email@example.com or call us at 415-229-9240 and let us know you’ve sent us all of your documents.
Step 4: Tax-Aid will contact you to set up an appointment to review your documents with you and let you know about the next steps.
Need to file an extension? You can find that form on the IRS website. Please note, that an extension to file does not mean an extension to pay your taxes. If you owe taxes, you will still need to make a payment. The link to the form can be found here: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/extension-of-time-to-file-your-tax-return
Filing an extension means that you have until October 15, 2020, to submit the completed tax returns. If you have already filed an extension and you would like Tax-Aid to assist you with your tax returns, we will need your completed tax questionnaire and all of your income tax documents by September 1, 2020, so we have enough time to prepare your tax returns.
